Interdepartmental Specialization Program Overview

Credits Required for Graduation 128 credits or more
Interdepartmental Specialization Program 15–16 credits
Secondary Specialization At least 3 courses
  • To graduate, students must complete at least 128 credits, including university-required general education courses , and must complete at least one Professional Program in their home department as well as either an Interdepartmental Specialization Program, an Interdisciplinary Program, or a Secondary Specialization. Any remaining credits required for graduation may be fulfilled through elective courses from other programs, excluding university-required general education courses.

What Is a Specialization Program?

A Specialization Program is a modular curriculum of 15 to 16 credits offered by a department to help students from other departments develop knowledge and skills in a specific professional field.

What Is a Secondary Specialization?

A Secondary Specialization refers to the completion of at least three professional courses offered by another department, even if the student has not completed that department’s full Specialization Program.

Application Procedure and Eligibility

Application Procedure

  • Students must complete the selection of an Interdepartmental Specialization Program by Week 14 of the second semester of the freshman year .
  • Students who wish to change their Interdepartmental Specialization Program may submit a change request through the Student Information System before Week 14 of the following semester .

Eligibility

This requirement applies to students admitted in Academic Year 2017–2018 or later in the day division undergraduate program.
