A Welcome Letter from the Department Chair

Welcome to the Department of Information Communication at Asia University, where a brand-new journey begins.

Starting university can be both exciting and a little unsettling. You may be looking forward to meeting new friends and studying subjects that genuinely interest you, while still being unsure whether your future lies in journalism, film and television, design, digital marketing, generative AI, or new media technologies.

You do not need to have all the answers right now. The value of your four years at university lies in learning, trying, and exploring again and again—gradually discovering what truly interests you and becoming the person you want to be.

The Department of Information Communication is an interdisciplinary program that brings together communication creativity, information technology, and generative AI. You will learn not only filmmaking, photography, news reporting, audiovisual production, and digital marketing, but also how to apply generative AI, AR/VR, virtual production, and interactive media to bring creative ideas to life through emerging technologies.

Because our department is part of the College of Information and Electrical Engineering, you may worry that you do not have a programming background or that information technology is not your strength. There is no need to worry. At AU Information Communication, we value not only technology itself, but more importantly how you use technology to express ideas, tell compelling stories, and create meaningful content with impact.

Our faculty will start with the fundamentals and guide you step by step. Whatever your academic background—and whether or not you have previous experience in visual production or programming—as long as you are willing to try, you will gradually find the path that suits you.

Over the next four years, you will have opportunities to work in the LVS (LED Virtual Studio), use virtual production systems, and turn classroom ideas into real projects. Through co-teaching with industry professionals, industry–academia collaboration, professional internships, and the 7+1 study model, you will also gain an early understanding of how the media industry operates and prepare for your future career.

More important than equipment or technology, however, is your willingness to participate actively and become a creator who is curious enough to ask questions, eager to collaborate, and ready to learn by doing.

Make the most of every opportunity to shoot, interview, discuss, pitch ideas, and present your work. Your projects do not need to be perfect from the beginning, because real growth often happens through mistakes, revisions, and trying again.

If you encounter setbacks or uncertainty, you do not have to face them alone. Our faculty, staff, and senior students are here to listen and help you find your direction.

Four years from now, we hope you will leave with more than a diploma. We hope you will also have the broad capabilities needed for the future: the creativity to generate ideas, the technological skills to realize them, the ability to expand possibilities with AI, and the sincerity and professionalism to communicate with the world.
